WHAT IS HYPNOTHERAPY?
Put simply: hypnotherapy = hypnosis + therapy.
HYPNOSIS is a totally natural state of mind, the learning state that every human being enters, to one degree or another, on a regular basis. When under hypnosis you will feel very relaxed, just like that wonderful feeling you have when you're tired lying down, just prior to going into deep sleep. You feel fully awake, but deeply relaxed.
THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HYPNOSIS AND HYPNOTHERAPY - To
understand the difference between hypnosis and hypnotherapy, think of hypnosis
as a tool and hypnotherapy as the expert therapeutic use of hypnosis. Hypnotherapy is hypnosis used by a trained clinical therapist, usually
a psychologist, M.D., or other healthcare practitioner.
At HeartLight Wellness of Santa Fe, Dr. Brady uses hypnotherapy to deal tough cases with acute and chronic conditions that other healthcare practitioners were unable to treat. Dr. Brady and his practice partner, Dr. Irene Dougherty, Doctor of Oriental Medicine, use deep relaxation techniques, acupuncture, and other treatments to reduce the root cause of pain, allergies, indigestion, and stress.
The deeply relaxed hypnotic state is a remarkable therapeutic tool for dealing with health problems illustrated in the chart below, and depending on the individual client, hypnotherapy generally requires a series of six to ten sessions to achieve optimal results.
Dr. Brady also addresses behavioral concerns that may be causing you distress such as anxiety, depression, interpersonal relationships, shyness, latent anger,
sexual intimacy, PTSD, and other issues that prevent you from
having the quality of life you desire.
Before choosing a hypnotherapist check to see that they: 1) are trained as
therapists and 2) have sensible, practical solutions to help you with you unique situation. It's best
to check both, as the first doesn't always guarantee the second.
DOES HYPNOTHERAPY WORK?
Hypnotherapy provides access
to the subconscious mind, and therapists find
hypnotherapy to be more efficient than traditional therapy techniques to get to the root of physical and emotional symptoms.
allows the practitioner to drop beneath the rational part of our mind
that often keeps us from dealing with any underlying cause. We can get
hung up on not understanding why
we do something or why we feel something because it doesn’t make
sense. Hypnotherapy accesses the root of these issues.
The American Psychological Association concludes, “Clinicians now agree it can be a powerful, effective therapeutic technique for a wide range of conditions, including pain, anxiety and mood conditions.” The British Psychological Society research found, “...Inclusion of hypnotherapy is beneficial in the management and treatment of a wide range of conditions and problems encountered in the practice of medicine, psychiatry and psychotherapy.”
